The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) participated in the Regional Conference on the Economics of Design, the Riyadh Design Law Treaty (Riyadh Treaty) and the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs, held in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 28–29 April 2026. The event was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in cooperation with the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (SAKPATENTI).

The conference brought together heads of intellectual property offices and decision-makers from Central Europe, the Baltic States and the Mediterranean region: the Czech Republic, Poland, Albania, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Georgia, as well as senior WIPO representatives, a specially invited Professor from the University of Cambridge and well-known Georgian and foreign designers. The event aimed to promote the Riyadh Treaty, raise awareness of its benefits and strengthen cooperation in the field of industrial design protection.

During the sessions, attention was focused on the importance of design protection in the development of entrepreneurship and creative industries, which contributes to stimulating innovations, strengthening the competitive environment and attracting investments. The effects of design on economies in the region and beyond were also analyzed.

During the thematic session “The Riyadh Design Law Treaty: Purpose and Introduction”, the Deputy Director of AGEPI, Natalia Mogol, delivered a presentation on the developments of the Republic of Moldova in the field of industrial design protection, as well as the prospects and future plans in the process of harmonizing national legislation with the provisions of the new international treaty.

We recall that the Republic of Moldova was among the states participating in the signing of the Riyadh Treaty, adopted on November 22, 2024 at the Diplomatic Conference organized by WIPO.

The event constituted an important platform for dialogue and exchange of experience between representatives of intellectual property offices and international experts, addressing topics related to the economic impact of design, strengthening the international framework for industrial design protection and the prospects for the implementation of the Riyadh Treaty in the participating states.
