The Trilateral Meeting at the management level of the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI), the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks of Romania (OSIM) and the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA) took place during the period 30 – 31 July 2024, in Bucharest, Romania.
This event joined the steps taken by AGEPI, OSIM and ORDA to strengthen cooperation in the field of intellectual property and the exchange of experience between the three offices for the development of a balanced system, capable of promoting and ensuring the protection of creations and innovations in the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
The efforts of the three intellectual property offices to improve practices through exchanges of experience, joint projects and activities to be organized in the coming period were discussed during the meeting.
During the two days, in the context of preparations for the bilateral screening meeting for Chapter 7 “Intellectual Property Law” planned for this December, AGEPI specialists addressed various aspects concerning the modalities of implementing the relevant European acquis in the field of intellectual property.
During the meeting, AGEPI Director General Eugeniu Rusu stressed the importance of the support provided by ORDA and OSIM in the process of integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union. “The support provided by our colleagues from ORDA and OSIM is essential for the Republic of Moldova to align its national legislation with European standards and ensure the effective protection of intellectual property rights,” said Eugeniu Rusu.
An Additional Act amending the Cooperation Protocol on the Organization and Conduct of the Contest in the Field of Intellectual Property for Young People, initially signed in Bucharest on May 26, 2017, was signed during the meeting. According to it, the parties will cooperate on the organization of the contest in accordance with the “Regulations on the Organization and Conduct of the Contest in the Field of Intellectual Property for Young People” developed by AGEPI and approved by the Director General of AGEPI, after coordination with the representatives designated by the other two parties in the Organizing Committee.
We note that on October 31, 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between AGEPI, ORDA and OSIM, which aims to establish a platform for joint cooperation activities between the three offices in the field of intellectual property and provide support for the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union, including by aligning the national legislation in the field of intellectual property with the relevant European acquis.
The Bucharest meeting emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the field of intellectual property and the commitment of the three offices to work together to ensure effective protection of creations and innovations in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
