Representatives of CREDIDAM, on a Working Visit to AGEPI

The Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Lilia Bolocan met today with the Director General of the Romanian Center for Performers’ Rights Management (CREDIDAM), Stefan Gheorghiu and the member of the Board of Directors of CREDIDAM Iulian Vrabete.

The up-to-date situation in the field of copyright and related rights, both in the Republic of Moldova and in Romania was reviewed during the meeting.

CREDIDAM representatives spoke about their practice in the field of collective management of rights entrusted by right holders, performers, performed over 21 years of activity.

The subjects discussed referred to the collection, distribution and payment of author’s remuneration, the importance of ensuring a fair distribution of the remuneration collected, and the need for a well-defined legal framework to regulate these issues.

AGEPI Director General Lilia Bolocan specified that the primary objective of the State Agency on Intellectual Property in this area is to ensure transparency in the process of collecting and distributing in due time the remuneration to all right holders.

CREDIDAM representatives were interested in the new Draft Law Amending and Supplementing Certain Legislative Acts, including Law No. 139 of 02.07.2010 on Copyright and Related Rights, subjected to consultations on the AGEPI website, being willing to examine and express their opinion about the draft, jointly with the Association of Societies' Council for the Collective Management of Performers' Rights (SCAPR).

Also, CREDIDAM representatives have stated that they are ready to grant AGEPI the necessary assistance to establish collaboration relations with international experts in the field and thus to gain access to international practices related to the effective management of performers’ rights.
