World Intellectual Property Day. What Activities AGEPI Will Carry Out

Every year, on April 26, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated to promote the role of intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, plant varieties, geographical indications, and copyright), in encouraging innovation and creativity.

The theme of the World Intellectual Property Day in 2018 is: Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity.

Worldwide events proposed by the World Intellectual Property Organization include the events that will take place at national level and will be organized by AGEPI in order to place a value on the potential and role of intellectual property for economic, cultural and social development of our country.

In the list of actions dedicated to the World Intellectual Property Day is the traditional Annual Intellectual Property Symposium “AGEPI READINGS”, 20th edition, to be held on 25 April, in the conference hall of AGEPI. The Symposium will cover interactive discussions on a wide range of current issues in the field of intellectual property.

Also on the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day, AGEPI launched, in the period March 1 – April 26, 2018, a photo contest on the theme “Women Who Inspire”. The purpose of the contest is to highlight the important role that women have in today’s innovation and creativity.

On April 26, the marking of this world celebration will begin with the organization of open lessons in 10 lyceums from Chisinau municipality. AGEPI specialists will talk to students about intellectual property and the role of women in innovation and creativity.

Also on April 26, AGEPI will open its doors for visitors between 09:00 and 16:00. Throughout this day, visitors will be informed about the activity of AGEPI, the benefit of the protection of inventions, trademarks, industrial design, copyright, etc., will receive consultations on sources of information and documentation in the field of intellectual property protection and how to access the national and international databases.

The program of the manifestations dedicated to this holiday will culminate in a Networking entitled “Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity”, organized by AGEPI, in collaboration with the Association of Disabled Entrepreneurs, at the National Art Museum of Moldova. The event will bring together several successful women from the Republic of Moldova. Also, within the framework of networking will be announced the totals of the photo contest on the theme “Women Who Inspire” and will be awarded by AGEPI the top 3 most active women inventors from the Republic of Moldova.

World Intellectual Property Day is marked since 2000, and April 26 is the day on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (1970) entered into force.
