Working Visit to AGEPI of the SAKPATENTI Delegation

With the view of strengthening the cooperation relations between the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI) and National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (SAKPATENTI), and signing in this regard a Memorandum of Understanding between intellectual property offices of the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, on 3-4 June 2013, is conducted the working visit to Chisinau of SAKPATENTI delegation.

On June 3, SAKPATENTI delegation had a meeting with the administration and department directors of AGEPI, being discussed various issues and problems in the field: similarities and differences of national IP systems, assessment of the state of cooperation between AGEPI-SAKPATENTI up to the current stage, technological processes for the protection of IP objects, enforcement of IP rights, organization of public awareness and IPP information promotion campaigns, professional training in the field of IP, organization of seminars and exhibitions, international cooperation and European integration, etc.

During the bilateral meeting between Mrs. Lilia Bolocan, Director General of AGEPI, and Mr. Irakli Ghvaladze, President of SAKPATENTI, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia.

The purpose of this Memorandum is to develop cooperation in the field of intellectual property rights between AGEPI and SAKPATENTI, and to establish the priority cooperation directions for the next period.

The Memorandum includes various aspects of cooperation in the field of intellectual property, including staff training of Parties, implementation of the computerized system for procedures for the grant of intellectual property rights, office management, etc. Also, the Memorandum provides for the establishment of direct relations between the relevant units of both sides, exchange of information on activities aimed at developing and strengthening the national systems of intellectual property, exchange of publications and other information of mutual interest. A special topic of Moldovan-Georgian cooperation is the area of ​​geographical indications and appellations of origin.

Geographical indications will be the main topic of discussion at the meeting of SAKPATENTI delegation with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova to be held on 4 June 2013.
