Start was given to the Annual Intellectual Property Symposium “AGEPI Readings”

Today, at the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), start was given to the 19th edition of the Annual Intellectual Property Symposium “AGEPI Readings”. The purpose of this event is to provide a platform for debate on topics and issues in the field of intellectual property.

The event is attended by AGEPI employees, representatives of intellectual property offices of Romania, Georgia and the Russian Federation, opinion leaders from the intellectual property environment: scientific and innovation centers, universities, professional associations, central public administration authorities, etc.

The symposium was opened by AGEPI Director General, Octavian Apostol, who noted that “AGEPI Readings” is an unusual event in the Republic of Moldova, which proposes the creation of a platform for discussion and socialization for experts in intellectual property designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas in order to identify new perspectives for efficient and effective management of the biggest challenges in the field of intellectual property.

“AGEPI Readings” started according to the program with Session I, entitled: Developments in the field of industrial property rights and included communications on the protection of geographical indications; Extension of the term of validity of the Eurasian patent for medicinal products; Trade secret as an industrial property object, and the connections and intersections of a “warrior” patent attacked in a Soviet newspaper.

According to the program of the Symposium, over two days, the presentations of more than 20 intellectual property professionals and the adjacent areas will be heard, targeting 4 key areas:

  • Industrial property rights;
  • Copyright and related rights;
  • Exploitation and management of intellectual property; and
  • Intellectual property in the on-line environment.

Thematic discussions will take place in 5 panels, and on the second day of the event a high-level session will take place, with the participation of foreign guests and representatives of Moldovan public authorities, who will be dedicated to the role of innovations in sustainable development.

The Symposium “AGEPI Readings” is part of the series of events devoted to World Intellectual Property Day, celebrated annually on April 26th. The World Intellectual Property Day theme this year is: Innovation - Improving Lives.
