National Seminar "Intellectual Property for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises", organized by AGEPI with the support of WIPO

In the period from November 14 to 15, 2012 the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) of Republic of Moldova holds the National Seminar "Intellectual Property for SMEs". The Seminar aims to inform local economic agents on the role and importance of intellectual property objects in SMEs development and increase of their competitiveness on the market, means of creation, protection and exploitation of intangible assets.

At the opening ceremony of the Seminar, welcoming speeches were delivered by Mr. Ion Tiganas, Deputy Director General AGEPI, Ms. Valentina Veverita, Director, SMEs policy development and liberal professions Direction under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Moldova, Mrs. Lien Verbauwhede Koglin, Consultant, Innovation Division, SMEs Section, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The speakers underlined the importance of intellectual property objects in business development, emphasizing the fact that effective protection and enhancement of intangible assets increase the SMEs income.

The seminar has been attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Technology Transfer Agency (AITT), business incubators of Soroca, Stefan Voda and Singerei, also "JLC", "Starnet", "Slaven-Lux", "Rumeon" Ltd "ArhitecArt" LLC, "Sun Studio" Ltd., "Wines Ialoveni" SA, "Victoriabank" SA, students from various educational institutions.

International and local experts shall provide participants with the information on best practices and models of efficient intellectual property management of enterprises, intellectual property services that SMEs can benefit and support tools for acquisition of the IP objects by the concerned enterprises.

Experience of the Republic of Moldova on the role of intellectual property objects in the business development was expressed by AGEPI experts, namely: "Use of Geographical Indications, Designations of Origins for SMEs development" (Mr. Simion Levitchi, Director, Trademarks and Industrial Designs Department, AGEPI), "Protection of Industrial Design and Export of Local Products "( Mr. Alexandru Șaitan, Head, Industrial Designs Division), "Legislation and IP management in Moldova "(Ms. Doina Ciuș, jurist coordinator, Contencious and IP objects legal status Division)," Role of Trademark in International Trade" (Ms. Liliana Railean, Specialist coordinator, International Trademarks Division).

Current Seminar turns to be very useful for all the participants due to the importance of issues under the discussion and the experience of other states that can serve as an example for Moldovan enterprises regarding the use of efficient tools for obtaining profit from intellectual assets and combating IPR infringements.
