AGEPI participated in a Videoconference with WIPO Representatives

The representatives of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) convened, on June 5, in a videoconference to discuss the latest developments in the field of intellectual property. The main topic of the conference was the protection of copyright and related rights, the discussions being focused in particular on issues related to the collective management of rights.

In the opening of the videoconference, the Director General of AGEPI Viorel Iustin mentioned that the Agency, as a national intellectual property office, highly appreciates the collaboration between the Republic of Moldova and WIPO and its openness to the needs and initiatives of the office. “Providing a modern system for the protection of copyright and related rights in the Republic of Moldova is of major importance for AGEPI, being one of the priorities of the work agenda of the institution,” underlined Viorel Iustin.

During the event, there was an exchange of information and opinions in the field of collective management of copyright at national and international level. WIPO representatives presented the organization’s latest tool for collective management of copyright and related rights, namely the WIPO Connect system, an IT solution intended for collective management organizations in WIPO Member States.

The system of collective management of copyright and related rights is complex and is one of the priority areas of interest for both Member States and WIPO. During the discussions, the WIPO openness to the support in the modernization of the normative-legislative framework of the Republic of Moldova and the development of the institutional capacities of AGEPI and of the collective management organizations in our country was reiterated.

At the end, the participants appreciated the usefulness of the event and agreed on the continuation of bilateral cooperation on topics of mutual interest.
